The church is a group of believers that gathers together. The New Testament church seemed to love gathering together
(Acts 2:46). Because we believe that we gather together for the aid of pursuing our relationships with both God and
others, we take our gatherings seriously. We are committed to gathering.
Hebrews 10:25 says that we are to gather
together for the purpose of "stimulating one another to love and good works." The people of Lighthouse Baptist Church
operate under the passion that we need each other in order to pursue holiness and love. Therefore, each gathering
is held with a distinct purpose in mind, (e.g., gatherings for prayer, for formal education, for informal fellowship,
for formal accountability, etc.)
It also seems that the New Testament church was devoted to gathering not only publicly but
privately; not only formally, but informally (Contrast Acts 2:42 with 2:46 and 20:20). We are committed to such
a pattern in our gathering as well. We believe there is a time for the pulpit and the classroom as well as a time
for the fireplace or kitchen table.
The purpose of our Sunday gatherings is to demonstrate both aspects of the
formal / public and informal / private.
We want to let the river of our joy run deep
so that it may run wide.
